TRANSFORMATION
Stephan A. Schwartz (2015). The 8 Laws of Change: How to be an Agent of Personal and Social Transformation.
Lasting positive personal and social transformation begins with one person holding a compassionate and life-affirming intention and acting on it...the individual, group, and community of people that arises from this one individual's intent must, according to Schwartz's research, follow 8 laws to effect positive and lasting personal and social transformation:
1) share common intention (positive, compassionate, and life-affirming)
2) have goals but not cherished outcomes (allow for more than one path to the goal)
3) accept that the goal(s) may not be reached in their lifetime and be genuinely ok with that
4) accept that they may not get credit or acknowledgment for what they do and be genuinely ok with that
5) enjoy equality even as hierarchy is respected
6) foreswear violence in word, act, and thought (live a life of peace)
7) make private selves consistent with public selves
8) act from BEINGNESS of life affirming integrity
One way to begin this process is by LISTENING to a person/groups needs and creating a system that prioritizes serving their wellness over profit making...and while doing this abiding by the 8 laws.
Examples of how the 8 laws are applied include Quaker movements, Ben Franklin's legacy, Green Peace activism, Kiva micro loans (among others).
