VOLUNTARY CONTROLS

Jack Schwarz (1978). Voluntary Controls:

                                    Exercises for Creative Meditation.

Appears to have a Doctor of Naturalpathy associated with the Aletheia Foundation (no public documents verifying his degree, no formal degrees), was involved in legitemate mind-body research experiments, especially with the Meninger Foundation.

No teachers or formal dogma...he relies on his own experience and suggests that one must be active in experimenting with life, that we are the ultimate judge if an activity/practice/method is helpful for us...if the activity fits/aligns/benefits, fine, if not, change it to suit your particular needs, or drop it.

practices

projection screen...run your upcoming day as a movie on a screen from beginning to end (can also review at day's end in reverse to discover areas of growth or areas that need improvement).

paradoxical breathing...inhale into chest first then belly (opposite of what is usually taught)

reverie--create a visual scene of a favorite place in nature in your mind's eye, create a 2nd image of yourself entering the scene about 10 feet away from your observer position...engage in the scene in some meaningful way (Schwarz lists several meditations for meaningful self-discovery and engagement including, sculpture of clay, 7 doors, river and cavern, 5 realms, room of mirrors, and cube and sphere (p. 52+)

the process of creative meditation is the most important practice he suggests (30 min. minimum)...the details are too involved to list here, see pps. 72-82.

there is also a series of chara mediations connected with geometric shapes and colors which appear significant
