POOH WISDOM

A.A. Milne (1926). Winne-the-Pooh.

The dedication of the book left me teary-eyed:

To her...hand in hand we come/Christopher Robin and I/to lay this book in your lap/say you're surprised?/say you like it?/say it's just what you wanted?/because it's yours--/because we love you.

While the story is a simple one about a bear and a boy and the adventures they go on in a make believe world, the story carries much "pooh wisdom" such as:

when someone asks you a question, pause and think before you speak

when you have a difficulty, sit down and "have a think" before you act

listen to your body as pooh listens to his tummy for signs that he needs honey--the body has a wisdom of its own and will tell you what you need

let's pretend to go on an expedition every now and then just for the fun of it

Two of my favorite sayings:

1)Discerning life priorities

Piglet addressing Pooh: when you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing you say to yourself?

Pooh: What's for breakfast?

Piglet: I wonder what's going to happen exciting today?

Pooh: It's the same thing.

[contemplating our first morning thoughts can provide clues for what's important in our lives]

2) Go straight to the love

There are two kinds of people that go to the zoo...some that begin at WAYIN and walk quickly past every cage until they get to WAYOUT...the nicest people go straight to the animal they love most, and stay there.

so let us go to the people and places we love most and stay there and not miss out on the important things that need to happen with those we love instead of busily rushing from the WAYIN to the WAYOUT
